Immer wieder porträtiert er sie, bis schließlich über 140 Gemälde und 700 Zeichnungen von Marthe entstehen. Doch Marthe begnügt sich nicht mit der Rolle der Muse. Sie strebt danach, selbst künstlerisch tätig zu sein. Für Pierre ist das schwer zu akzeptieren, und er sieht sich zunehmend mit der Frage konfrontiert, wer in ihrer Beziehung eigentlich welche Rolle spielt…

Marthe de Méligny (Cécile de France), who confidently presents herself as a noblewoman, enters his life and becomes his muse – an encounter that fundamentally changes Bonnard's work.
